View Full Version : Play MP3 SetupBuilder Test Application

NewsArchive
08-18-2008, 02:06 AM
All,

I have uploaded a small 744 KB (code-signed) application compiled with
SetupBuilder to test a new MP3 module.

http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/PlayMP3.exe

PlayMP3.exe "should" play a small 486 KB mp3 file in the "background". The
application does not request administrator execution level privileges on
Vista. It will NOT make any system modifications.

Does the MP3 play on your machine?

Thanks,
Friedrich

Friedrich,

Yes, the MP3 played, and I waited til MP3 finished, and was ready to click
on the "Call again into the DLL" window and I got an error window on Vista
Ultimate 32 (as shown in the attachment) -

IF I didn't wait until the MP3 was finished, but clicked on the "Call again
into the DLL" window (while MP3 was playing), no error and then MP3 return
value: 0 window - tried at least three times with both methods and received
same results.

Thank you. I'll check this. I think the system resources were already
"freed" when it finished playing the MP3. Calling again into the
"finished" MP3 procedure crashed the system.

Be glad to retest for you at any time - it failed every time when I used
the method as described. At least, I didn't have to reboot...

Sorry for that <vbg>. Volume is set to "100" in the SetupBuilder
application <g>.

But wait, "wakeup call" means you had some sleep, right? What's up??? ;-)

You should have downloaded the
PlayMP3_play_softly_I_have_been_up_all_night.exe version, it plays Karen
Carpenter songs.

Should be fixed now. I have uploaded a new test version:
http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/PlayMP3.exe

Output volume is set to 50 (instead of 100) now. Does it work on your Vista
machine?

Thank you!

Friedrich,

Well, first window displays Test Version 2, so I have the new test version,
but the MP3 never actually plays, although all the windows show up as in
previous test.

(I tested an MP3 previously saved on my system, so I know mp3 files do play
(are audible over my speaker system) on my system just before your test).

The last window - MP3 return value: is blank

"No runs, no hits, no errors" - your ERA remains low, and you're on your
way to a no-hitter.

Vista Ultimate 32 - test version 3

Success! Works with both methods I have previously described - no errors,
no hangups

Yes, works also fine on Server 2008. The problem in "TEST 2" was a missing
runtime dependency.
