Re: MSM Merge Module Import Availablility Microsoft provides VC++ runtimes as standard self-extracting redistributables and SetupBuilder supports it (see attached screenshot). There is no need to use MSM files here. If you are interested, you can send the 3rd-party MSM to Consulting [at] lindersoft [dot] com and we'll check if it is possible to convert the files to a SB7MSI redist. Friedrich
Re: MSM Merge Module Import Availablility
Re: MSM Merge Module Import Availablility We have some Microsoft ones, such as Visual C++ Runtimes, but there also some 3rd party MSMs.
Re: MSM Merge Module Import Availablility Andrew, We are using our SB7 MSM compiler inhouse if a Setup Consulting Project needs it. What kind of MSM conversion do you need? Is it a standard MSM from Microsoft or a 3rd-party one? Friedrich
Re: MSM Merge Module Import Availablility OK, so Merge Module imports probably won't be supported by SetupBuilder for a while, at least. Do you have any solutions or workarounds for users who have some installs that depend on merge module functionality?
Re: MSM Merge Module Import Availablility Andrew, We have a large SetupBuilder community and adding new functionality is a priority-driven processes (we already have a "wishlist" for the next three years <g>). If we receive multiple requests for the same feature then chances are that it might get a higher development priority. Based on the total number of SetupBuilder users worldwide, there are only very (VERY) few requests for MSM Merge Module support The "problem" is that about 80% of our new customers switch from a MSI solution to SetupBuilder EXE. Because most our customers do not have any interest in MSI or MSM, we did not make MSI/MSM available yet and it has very low priority (especially after the Windows Logo requirements changed). Friedrich
MSM Merge Module Import Availablility I was wondering if there was an estimate for when the Merge Module support would be implemented? From the What is Planned for Future Versions page in the help: MSM Merge Module Import (Developer Edition). Convert standard Windows Installer Merge Modules (.msm) into native Windows Installer runtime installer for SetupBuilder.
