    Friedrich,

Thanks you. That all makes good sense.

    Thanks for your analysis.

    Re: SB8.5 Error Opening Project

Update: the new internal SB8.5 displays the returned error code now (see attached screenshot). In this case, the project file is locked and it returns the correct error code 5 (ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED = 5 (0x5) = Access is denied).

This will be available in the soon coming new build.

    Re: SB8.5 Error Opening Project

    Bob,

Yes, this is typical for a buggy anti-virus / anti-spyware definition update. The hash of your old SetupBuilder 8.1 and new 8.5 SB8.EXE is different and as a result, your protection software treats it differently. It seems to lock (for whatever reason) that project file when you open it with the SB8.EXE from version 8.5 and does not release "the lock".

The next SetupBuilder 8.5 build (will be available within the next 2-3 days) will report the error code, so this should give us more information.

You can send the project file to support [at] lindersoft [dot] com but I am sure that we can open it from our mapped drive (we are using ESET NOD32).

    Thank you !!!

    Re: SB8.5 Error Opening Project

    Friedrich,

    Thank you for quick reply.

H: is mapped external drive that contain allmy Clarion work. I was able to build a package with 8.5 with another project, but it fails on the reported one. Then after it fails it continues to fail on any project I try to open including the one I had previously successfully built.

The "Unable to open" issue does not occur with 8.1.

It's not a work stopper since I can still use 8.1 for the one project, but thought it might be something to report especially when it fails to open on any project after 8.5 initially fails.

I can send you the project if you want.

    Thank you for your support.

BTW, we'll display the returned error code in the next SB build. I think it is a typical "access denied" error in your case.

    Re: SB8.5 Error Opening Project

    Hi Bob,

As I understand it, H:\ is a mapped drive. I think you have some kind of a "permission" problem. Perhaps you have received a buggy anti-virus definition update and real-time monitoring locks that file (and does not release the lock). Nothing changed in the Open Project File procedure for years (last minor modification is dated September 26, 2013).

    SB8.5 Error Opening Project

I just downloaded and installed SB 8.5.4655.0. I previously had 8.1.4550.

I opened several 8.1 projects and saved them fine. But I tried to open one that I can still open in 8.1 and it gives me the attached error SetupBuilder cannot project file [4]:..... see attached.

Closed it and tried to open others that I had previously opened in 8.5 and get the same error replacing the project file name.

I have to close SB8 and re-open it. Tried one of the projects again that I had previously opened and it opened OK. Tried the project with the original error and got the error again. Then I could not open any other project.

    v8.1 still reads them fine.

    Thoughts?

    Bob Taylor
