Feature request
Friedrich,
An idea for the next major release (sounds like a major release feature <g>, up
to you of course)
In addition to the current install dialogs SB makes for us, I'd like to see it
use a dialog that is more like a menu. The custom dialog has limits, for
example, one cannot resize it to make it bigger. But a new custom dialog that
we can easily change anything on it, font, color, size, etc. This make it more
align with any given company's design standards.
For example, I'd like a nice big install dialog that has options (maybe as
buttons?) to install the main program, any demo data, documentation, videos or
any other option we want. All while keeping the fonts, color theme and button
style with a given standard (or not).
When a user presses one of these buttons, it launches an install program, or
opens a video, PDF, etc.
We've had to create a Clarion app that calls various SB programs, just would be
nice to do it all under SB. Which leads to another major feature request:
Solution oriented install projects. Or maybe one feature naturally leads to the
other? <g> If you want a screen shot of what I mean, I can send it to you.

Re: Feature request
Russ,
(except for the size and font colors)
When I wrote the installers for John from docu-track for the new
version 4, he wanted me to dinf a way to limit his bandwidth ie to have
one "main" installer which called "child" installers
That was easily done in SB itself
Now instead of calling an Installer SB can easily call a PDF or a Video
Maybe this "approach" could avoid you to write all this in Clarion ?

Re: Feature request
VERY NICE LOOK, Russ. I'm impressed!
Custom size would be nice, I agree. The trend seems to be to larger
installer windows (such as the examples below)...
Perhaps that's in part because the full-screen background isn't used much
any more and the larger installer windows draw attention more. Perhaps just
because of the way information can be presented.
But I can imagine it would be a major structural change for SB....

Re: Feature request
Thanks, but kudos have to go to my graphic artist <g>. You should see the CDs
he can burn that run this install <bg>.
But the point is that each tab in a wizard style installer could themselves
have a few options. And if we have control over look and feel and size. Or I
should say complete control. SB dialogs are very nice and even a plain vanilla
install looks great. Eye candy is getting more important each day, so much so
its now an important feature.
We are almost on the verge of dropping support of XP, we've already dropped
support of any resolution under 1024x768. I think our installers could follow
suite <G>. Friedrich likes putting something major in each of his major
releases, so this could very well fall under that category.

Re: Feature request
Hi Russ,
Looks great! Very well done.
I'll give it some thoughts. At the moment, the installation wizards follow
the MSI "look-and-feel" standard.
