Bob,
This is usually a problem with the place where the file is hosted - but it
can also be the result of people using download managers (some work better
than others I guess).
Anyway - the symptoms are usually that someone will report to you that your
installer is asking them to insert disk#2.
When this happens - a good clean download will always fix it.
BTW - we usually advise them to NOT use download managers and/or turn them
off if they have problems.
That seems to always take care of it.

BTW - I have NEVER had a problem with a SetupBuilder webdate downloading.
The problems I referred to were always when someone was downloading the
FULL install from a website (again - almost always using a download manager
- or being an AOL customer<g>).
One thing to consider as well Bob is that if you are hosting the downloads
on your own broadband connection that it may be inadequate for the task.
Most Internet providers have a fat pipe for downloads to your office - but
often a smaller (overbooked) pipe for uploads.
As a result customers could be getting timeouts that way.
Given the inexpensive accounts at quality providers such as Dewahost or
GoDaddy, I would never even consider hosting my own uploads. When you
release a new version and countless customers go to update - it needs to
originate from a data center where they have the bandwidth to handle it.
Just my $.02
;-)

Re: Download file fragmented
That's a reason I prefer FTP downloads, which SB unfortunately does not
support.

Re: Download file fragmented
you mean a complete setup created with SB6 stays half way downloaded ?
NEVER seen or heard of this except when I had done a mistake when uploading
the file and my server refused to send the end 'sign' so that my ftp client
did not knwo if the upload was complete
But this has nothing - in this case - to do with SB6
Check also your clients accelerators for downloading ....

Re: Download file fragmented
Bob,
First of all the good news: it has nothing to do with SB6 ;-)
The bad news is: it may be caused by your Internet web provider.
Let us assume, you created a Zip archive using WinZip and your customer was
unable to download the full .zip file (because his Internet connection is
not reliable, your web server is not reliable, his firewall does strange
things, etc.). If he tries it again but he has to rename the file to
completely download it, perhaps your server does not allow byte-range
requests or his proxy, etc. does not allow this byte-range request
functionality.
So what can WinZip (created the .zip) do in this case? Absolutely nothing!
The same with SB6.
I would suggest to check your web log - if you have quite a few incomplete
downloads, I would suggest to change the web provider.
Does this help?
BTW, to detect an incomplete download, General Information -> Advanced
Settings -> Set "Enable Installer Integrity Check" to YES.

Re: Download file fragmented
Charles,
I am with Dewahost and am pleased with their service and dependability.
Exactly what is webdate downloading?
Bob
Re: Download file fragmented
any number of files compressed by SB as per all the files you tell SB to
install plus an ini file and a small exe containing the list of these files
....
What hangs exactly ?

Re: Download file fragmented
Friedrich,
I did not think the problem had anything to do with SetupBuilder. I asked
here because I thought this NG might have had the same experiences and it
does apply to the download file.
I do use Dewahost which was suggested to me by members of another NG. I
will check with them to see if they have any suggestions.
My customers are mostly non computer people. I would think very few have
accelerators but I certainly may be wrong. I will add a comment to my
download page about accelerators and AOL.
Thanks
Bob
Re: Download file fragmented
Bob,
Yes, I know you did not think the problem had anything to do with
SetupBuilder :) There is nothing wrong with your question!!!!
But quite a few (potential) customers visit the newsgroups. Sometimes they
quick scan postings, see the words "problem"..."SetupBuilder"..."web update"
and assume this specific problem is caused by a buggy SetupBuilder installer
or web update component.
Q: "Do you know a good installer?"
A: "SetupBuilder seems to be a good product, but it has problems with web
downloads"
Q: "Really?"
A: "Yes, I think I read that people are not getting the complete file when
downloading".
Q: Argh! But I need the web update feature. I'll keep my hands off the
product.
So sometimes I try to explain why a problem is not caused by SetupBuilder
and then give some pointers to what might cause it.
And of course, if a problem is caused by SetupBuilder I will also say so and
fix it <g>.
