Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Hi All
I am about to try my hand at code signing with Comodo.
How do I make sure that the WHOIS database for our domain is up-to-date
and turn OFF domain registrar's privacy service? We do not look after
this domain. It is outsourced.
Cheers
Andre
Re: Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Andre,
If the domain in question is the one in the email you use here, it would
appear not to be shrouded:

Re: Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Hi Jane
That would be it. But I ask you - what does this all mean and why is it
necessary? I am trying to get my head around what I am actually trying
to achieve here.
Cheers

The phone number and email contact for the domain are part of the
system used to validate the authenticity of the certificate request.

They want to make sure that your info jibes. That you're not some
yahoo doing bad stuff. The domain admin will probably get some emails
that need attention too.

Re: Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Hi Lee
I have just realized that. And right now I am sitting with pretty
outdated data. Phone numbers and physical address have changed - we
have moved offices. Trying to get hold of our service provider to get
them to change that.
Cheers

If everything is up to date the process can be fairly painless and
quick but if things aren't current, well, it gets PAINFUL!<g>
Just follow the steps outlined by our resident guru, Jane, and it can
be handled quickly.

Re: Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Andre,
And if the budget allows get a 3 year certificate or you'll have to go
through this painful process next year. Unlike certs for you website
that can simply be renewed, code signing certs require the entire
process each time.

Re: Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Hi Lee
Just got hold of data support. Office only open Monday to Friday but I
have a direct number that will get the data in that record current. It
would have snookered us for sure. I see how it works now. Makes
perfect sense.
I have had a very good look at Jane's document - excellent stuff.
Cheers

Re: Domain Registrar's Privacy Service
Andre,
Here's a suggestion, can't recall if it's in Jane's docs or not, use
the domain admin email address, which should match the domain, for all
correspondence when ordering your certificate.
