Thread: Windows 7 "Pin to taskbar" feature test

  1. #1

Default Windows 7 "Pin to taskbar" feature test

    All,

One very useful feature of the new Windows 7 taskbar is the capability to
"pin" applications - keep an application's icon in the taskbar at all times
for easy access. Instead of cluttering your desktop, browsing your "Program
Files" folder or clicking through the Start menu, you can launch apps from
    the taskbar with one click.

Unfortunately, Windows 7 does not support an interface for doing this
programmatically. That means, you, as a software developer, can't pin your
application to the taskbar during the installation process.

We have an experimental new feature available now to automate "Pin to
taskbar" (install) and "UnPin from taskbar" (uninstall) from a SetupBuilder
7 application. If it works, we'll add it to SetupBuilder 7 Developer
    Edition.

We need a Windows 7 team to test the above feature. If you have a few
minutes, please download and test the following code-signed test installer:

    http://www.lindersoft.com/projects/Win7Pin.exe

    1. Start Win7Pin.exe. This is an application developed with SetupBuilder 7.

    2. Press the "Install Test Pin" button (see pin1.jpg and pin2.jpg). This
will create a c:\testpin folder and copy a SB7 "dummy" pindemo.exe. And now
you should see "the magic" -- the SetupBuilder application "should" pin the
application to the taskbar (see pin3.jpg)!

    3. To uninstall, start Win7Pin.exe again and Press the "Remove Test Pin"
button. This will UnPin the application from the taskbar, remove the
"dummy" pindemo.exe and remove the c:\testpin folder.

If there is any problem, please let me know.

    Thank you for your help!

It works fine on W7-64 (final). I also tried it in XP, and it
    displayed a suitable blocking message.
