Thread: Service starts/stops on Win 2008 Server

  1. #1

Default Service starts/stops on Win 2008 Server

Any guesses why a service start/stop/check request would fail on Windows
    Server 2008 Standard?

Installer is set to requireAdministrator and delivers a UAC prompt as
expected but it still fails. Problem is, the %_SB_Errorcode% returned is 0.

Likewise even a checkservice returns 0 even if the service is running.

One note: The service's display name has a space in it.

I can start/stop services manually without issue.

    Mark,

That's not what you're using for the service name, is it? Service Name
and Display Name can be different.

    Service Name: FaxManService
    Display Name: AFE FaxMan Server

Nope. The SB docs say to use the display name, so I believed the docs (yes,
I am the last person on earth who actually reads them<g>).

However, based on a test I just ran, its not the display name you should
use, its the service name (the one that doesnt allow spaces).

Friedrich, please make this change to the docs (its in several places).
    Thanks.

Right, but the SB7 doc I was looking at said "display name". Its Moseley's
    fault

You must be behind on your updates!<g> The help for the service
