Default SetupBuilder 2019, Remote Deploy, and more...

    All,

we continue to enhance SetupBuilder 2019 to provide our customers advanced
power and functionality needed to develop and manage state-of-the-art
    Windows installations.

So on November 10th, I restarted work on a software project which I've left
be for a while. Nearly two years ago, our good friend Russell B. Eggen
started a new journey. Russ, it hurts to see all your comments in our
SBRemote's project release history and SetupScript source code. I miss you
so much... But I know you are at a better place with no pain.

Wolfgang Kirsch of Classic Systems contacted me a while ago. As it turned
out, their deployment requirements fit well with the functionality offered
by our SetupBuilder Remote Deploy "Installigence" technology.

SetupBuilder Remote Deploy lets you do mass remote installations in
Workgroups and Domains - even if Windows User Account Control (UAC) is
enabled. The "SetupBuilder Remote Deploy Client", with the optional help of
the "SetupBuilder Remote Deploy Administrator" (written in Clarion), pushes
a remote-enabled SetupBuilder 10 install image from a Windows computer ("the
server") over to the Windows clients ("the workstations") and performs an
unattended software installation, update, or uninstallation.

We are running tests at the moment. Thank you Wolfgang for your help!
Let's hope we can bring this feature to life.

    Excellent news my friend!

I'm glad to see you're back on this project!

This will solve a lot of our support problems. Will it be able to tell
the workstations to quit the program so it can install over the top of it?

    Hi Ray,

The whole process has to be completely silent (there is no user interaction
possible or allowed). So if the application supports auto-close (shut-down
application gently), then yes. Or let it install over the active
application and then a reboot is required to complete the process.

The cool thing is, there is not even an UAC prompt on the workstations. It
    installs & updates completely behind-the-scenes.

BTW, there is another option possible to handle such an active application
updating scenario, but I have to test it.

I guess I'll have to get some kind of autoclose to work first... nothing
like a bunch of mechanics working on stuff and just shut down their
apps. But this sounds great... even if I had all of our programs shut
down manually... this will be a big help.

    Friedrich,
Where or how can I add an "Auto Close" to my application?

    Thanks

    Bill,

As far as I know, here is a template in Clarion that handles it for you. It
    processes the "gently close" event.
