Default SetupBuilder Remote Deploy Update [February 6, 2019]

    All,

we have been receiving quite a few questions asking about when the new
feature to remotely install products will be available.

SetupBuilder 2019 Version 10.1 will introduce built-in support for
"SetupBuilder Remote Deploy" on February 15, 2019. It lets you compile
remote deploy "push" installations as well as "tandem mode" installations.
The "tandem mode" installer type can be used to install, update, or
uninstall an application traditionally or via the new "Remote Deploy"
    functionality from the same setup.exe.

SetupBuilder 2019 Version 10.1 provides a major compiler upgrade to power
    Remote Deploy.

    Stay tuned for more information!

    Friedrich,

sounds great! ..... however, I do not understand a word of what you are talking about.

Just as a suggestion, would it be possible for you to make a screencapture
video, in which you show the new capabilities, on ... let's say YouTube? For
    slow-thinkers like me.

First the outcome, in a comparison to the traditional install. Just one install
after the aftre with some remarks.

And as the second part a short glimpse over the SB-IDE and source.

I guess this would be helpful.

    Hi Wolfgang,

yes, a series of YouTube videos are in development.

In short, "remote deploy" makes it easy to deploy applications over a local
area network. The installations, updates or uninstalls are done silently.
There is no UAC prompt on the target machine. A person on the receiving
machine does not need to do anything on their end. You can even retrieve
information from the remote computers (e.g. installed software packages or
    components).

Let us assume, you have 50+ machines in a workgroup or domain. You can
"push" SetupBuilder installs from one machine to all remote computers.
Means, the SBRemote technology sends the installation over from a "server"
to the workstation, SBRemote executes the SetupBuilder package on the
workstation to do its job and after the process it sends back the result to
    the "server" machine.

    Explicitly LAN, not WAN?

I see the benefit of foregoing UAC, is the installpath is C:\Program Files.

Getting back info about the current install is also nice.

Until now I manage this downloading my silent installer from inside the client
and run it by CHAIN(PATH\EXE), but because my program suite has its own
webserver. Your new approach seems to work with any program at all, which is a
    big plus.

    Thanks
    Wolfgang

    Hi Wolfgang,

    > Explicitly LAN, not WAN?

It "should" also work on WAN. The remote deploy technology requires only an
IP address to a server that has SMB listening on port 445. If you open up
Windows Explorer and navigate to \\x.x.x.x\yada and you get a prompt for
credentials then Remote Deploy will work.

BTW, but open up port 445 to the Internet "might" be a bad idea <g>
(security wise). So a VPN should be involved in this WAN scenario.

Ahhh, yes, thats a very important information bit!

I see a scenario for this deployment path.

Fortunately SetupBuilder is so versatile, that a deployment via WAN is possible
already. With this new technique it has another easy tool under the belt.

    Thanks for the explanation!

It would be cool if you could test the new feature when available and
provide feedback. Remote Deploy functionality will be enhanced over the
    coming months.

Update: we have added a few more fixes, and want to be able to regress test
    them over the weekend.

Still working on a very low level compiler bug. Sorry for the delay.
