I just switched to a personal certificate as well for the same reason.

I talked to a rep and had no problems communicating with them. They were
quite helpful in getting things resolved after a website glitch during the
order process had not provided them with all the info they need.

That's true.

I used IE in a Windows 10 VM. However the last time I loaded it I noticed
that MS was saying even there that IE was definitely going away.

I'm not sure what the answer will be but I am sure that MS will come up
with something.

Right now IE is the only browser that can interact with the certificate
store on your PC so that is why it is used.

But since code signing is here to stay I am sure that MS will provide a new
tool and all certificate issuers will have to revise their sites and
methods to use it.
