    I actually considered that before I bought my current laptop but according
    to Tom's hardware metrics the Opteron did not offer much if any performance
    advantage over the amd64 which surprised me and I did want a notebook. When
    the notebooks with the clear 17" screens came out I was sold. Battery life
    stinks but I work plugged in most of the time. Thanks any way.
