Thread: False-positive "Trojan.Zlob-7277" virus detection

    Default False-positive "Trojan.Zlob-7277" virus detection

    All,

A "false-positive" is another way of saying "mistake". As applied to the
field of anti-virus programs, a false positive occurs when the program
mistakenly flags an innocent file as being infected. Over-sensitivity in
the automatic detection of viruses (or heuristics) leading to false alarms
about virus infection is something of an Achilles Hell for anti-virus
scanners, which by their nature need frequent updating.

ClamAV is an excellent and very popular AntiVirus system for UNIX. It's
running behind-the-scenes on most UNIX server worldwide.

    http://www.clamav.net/

ClamAV released a virus definition update (on 8/1/2008) that caused its
product to ID all SetupBuilder application files (installer, uninstaller,
webupdate, etc.) as Trojan.Zlob-7277 virus. As a result, quite a few virus
scanner (e-mail scanning on mail gateways, FTP, etc.) removed files compiled
with any version of SetupBuilder 5.x and 6.x (and even SetupBuilder 7).

    This was a false-positive "Trojan.Zlob-7277" virus detection!

We were in contact with ClamAV and they fixed this bug early this morning,
around 11 o'clock. The virus definition is updated around the world now.
