Thread: Manifest added to C55 APP?

  1. #1

Default Manifest added to C55 APP?

Touched on but I do not see clarified in various posts, nor can I find it
    in the Help.

    1) Can one add a manifest to a C55 app using SB6? If yes how?
    2) If creating a setup on a Windows 7 machine, what will be the result on
running the installed app on an XP machine and vice-versa?

IIRC, SB6 did not support Win7-aware manifest embedding. As a result, the
"old" SB6 can't embed a manifest to make the .exe Win7 compliant.

BTW, the "#embed UAC manifest..." compiler directive in SB6 can embed a
Vista manifest into a Win32 executable.

Win7 compatible installations are backward compatible. And it does not make
a difference whether you create the install on Win2000 or Server 2008 R2 (or
whatever). The compiler always creates Win7 compatible installations.
Please note that the "old" SB6 is only Win7 "Release Candidate" compatible.
Only SetupBuilder 7.x is fully Win7 (RTM) compatible.

The effect of adding a manifest to an app that runs on XP will be that it
switches on the "XP look" - rounded buttons, etc.
(Unless you're using SB7 and mark the "Do not add MANIFESTDEPENDENCY
    element" check box.)

There's more information in the "Learning SetupBuilder Part I" help file.

The manifest that SetupBuilder inserts is not dependent on the operating
system that you're using when you create the installer.

    Of course you couldn't, Lee.

Such a reply penned by one of lesser arrogance than I would obviously have
been intended as a reply to Sim, rather than to Friedrich, misplaced by a
    slip of that mouse thingy.

But from me, one can never be sure. (Even I can't!!!<g>)

    Jane,

Speaking Of! The latest SB IDE finally makes your "Learning SetupBuilder
Part I" help file - NOT only a "Prominent Place" in the IDE, but press the
appropriate "magic" button - AND if not already installed - it will!

    Congrats!
