Thread: Server 8 Installer "look and feel"

  1. #1

Default Server 8 Installer "look and feel"

That's how the SetupBuilder installer looks with that "flat" look of
Metro-like on Windows 8 Server (with GUI installed).

The SetupBuilder 7.7 IDE looks like this on Server 8.

Unfortunately, MS decided to keep the MDI "change" (not exactly sure what
they changed but they definitely changed something) in their new OS kernel,
so we see some threading issues now. I already noticed this in Windows 8
"Developer Preview" and my hope was that this was not a permanent change in
the OS. But I think it is.

    Hi JP,

Try the following: remove the "Floppy" from your VMWare Virtual Machine
Settings for that new Windows 8. The problem is that the autoinst.flp file
contains the <ProductKey> and autoinst.flp is mounted when you start the VM.
So power off Win8 Virtual Machine, go to Virtual Machine settings and remove
the Floppy. Later, you can add the Floppy again.

    Does this help?

    BUG in VmWare :

If you remove the floppy during the install it does NOT remove it
You need to cancel the install then edit and remoe and start it ....

Well, that's what I said. autoinst.flp is mounted when you *START* the VM.
So it does not make sense to try to remove it during the install <g>. Not
really a bug, but a "problem" in 8.0.0, 8.0.1 and 8.0.2. You have to power
off the Win8 Virtual Machine, go to the Virtual Machine settings and remove
the Floppy. After that start the machine and the install.
